Experiencing the best of it all!
Lifestyle documentary audience, especially those who watch BBC Earth, will be familiar with Cherry Healey, a British television presenter who is famously known for her show ‘Inside the factory’, which is running into season 4. Going to places that one never thought of and showcasing the process that goes into manufacturing food and lifestyle products that are a part of our daily life, Cherry chooses to take up professional challenges.
Talking about her show ‘Inside the factory’ season 4 she shares, “In this season, we get to see the making of coffee, sausage and curry. It is an amazing thing to watch. We learn about the chemistry of coffee and caffeine, about how it affects our brain. In the third episode we learn about toilet roll where I go down the sewer, which is awful, wonderful, fascinating and very smelly.
In the episode of sausages we get into a factory that makes 6,025 of them every single day. We learn about the history and how Germany invented sausages. For the curry episode we got to visit India which was an amazing experience, we got to watch women, who were doing the chilly harvesting, which was fascinating. We have also gone to the chilly market, which was a wonderful filming trip.”
Getting into the factory and observing is no game and so, Cherry has been experiencing everything that is within the factories. “I think we did realise how difficult it is in a factory, sometimes it’s very hot and cold. Also you cannot pop-out (go out) of the factory once you are in, you have to be very organised and be prepared for the different temperatures that are inside the factory. One should be physically strong as we have to stand for a long time. We have learnt how to be our best in that kind of environment.”
Making sure that the team stayed fit throughout the season four of ‘Inside the Factory’ they took care of each other. “We made sure that we drank a lot of water and as we could get dehydrated easily. I learnt that physical health is very important, and I exercised whenever I got time,” she adds.
The show which is split into three different segments has very interesting things to look forward to. “Gregg Wallace who is the co-presenter discusses the process. I talk about the details like the ingredients for example if I want to know about cheese I go and find out about how it is made and the others will learn about the history of the product.”
It wasn’t easy for Cherry to handle the chillies of India, “The chilly harvest was very challenging. We went to a factory where they turned the giant chilies into chili powder that was really bad. We were sneezing and coughing, our eyes started watering. We kept having breaks in the toilets. People in the factory seemed fine, but we found it very critical.”
Television is fun and an interesting career one can choose says Cherry, “It is a long day when you start working for television. It is all about hard work and you get visit a lot of places that are fascinating. I would definitely recommend people to choose this as a career option.”
Mentioning about her passion towards her work she shares, “I think I really did not want to work in an office because I really love people’s life and love watching how people live. I always wanted to do something where I could find out how people lived.”
