Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation is an acronym for CCE. This evaluation procedure was on the minds of many prominent educationalists and policy makers since India got independence. “Learning without Burden”- a Report of the National Advisory Committee appointed by the Ministry of Human Resource Development, Department of Education, Govt. of India has stated that: “ Board examination, taken at the end of Class X and XII, have remained rigid, bureaucratic, and essentially uneducated…”

The scope of CCE in schools includes all the areas of intelligence and personality development of all the students. It is both scholastic and non-scholastic areas. When the evaluation is continuous there is the scope for showing the progress of students very frequently. The objectivity, validity of the tests are put to practice.

CCE is a process of evaluation of learning of children every day in school. When we think of the term “evaluation, what comes to our mind? May be examinations may be students writing exams and teachers awarding marks. Examinations were terminal earlier.

They used to have quarterly; half yearly, and annual. The marks scored here are final the students are promoted to upper class. In government schools, the performance of the students in the exams and the attendance is taken into consideration.
Students’ good behaviour, creativity, critical thinking and his or her interest to learn new things are going unnoticed by the old system of evaluation.

This was true, that is why something else is also added to this process. This is in vogue since 2011. According to this pattern marks are awarded for students awareness and erudite in the teaching-learning process. This has been happening in all CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalaya schools, state government schools and recognised schools have also started to follow the norms of CCE.  The pattern is FA1, FA2, FA3 and FA4 and Summative.
