‘Consume natural resources wisely’

Hyderabad: Dr. R Anandakumar, Additional Secretary (Finance), Tamil Nadu, distributed the prizes to the winners of SAKSHAM 2018 – Oil & Gas Conservation Mass Awareness Campaign at the valedictory function held in Chennai on Thursday .Winners of the quiz competition were felicitated during the function. 

Addressing the gathering at function Dr R Anandakumar said “As occupants of this earth, we are all bound to follow the Principle of Intergenerational equity, which stipulates that natural resources and environmental assets do not ‘belong’ to any generation, but are to maintained and preserved for all future generations. So it is our duty to use them wisely”.

R Sitharthan said “The process of conservation is a relay race. You run, and you hand over the baton, and your future generation picks it up. They take the stuff they want, throw the rest away, and keep running. That's what life is about. 

It should start with one and emanate through that individual to the society and the nation at large. The time is here and we should start acting on it.” “As responsible citizens of the country, it is our duty to optimize the use of petroleum products and thus contribute our inputs towards conservation of oil & gas”, he added.

The month long campaign in TN included various events like Public addresses & panel discussions, auto emission check, debates, free PUC checks, fuel saving concerts, group talks, hoardings / digital display of conservation messages, mass  rally, marathon, mega training, pollution checks, publication of articles and conservation messages, technical meet for industry, and training  for LPG delivery boys.

Over one lakh participants took part in the various activities held across the state by the oil industry. Bi-Cycle day was observed in 23 locations across the state; 3 Cyclothons were held in which over 1,500 cyclists took part, over 25,000 farmers, motorists and housewives were benefitted from group talks held at 662 locations; Mass Rallies, Marathons were held at 11 locations; 

381 Walkathons were held in the state with a participation of around 11,000 participants and over 8,000 school & college students took part in quiz, essay, painting and debate competitions. R Sitharthan, State Level Coordinator & Executive Director, Oil Industry, Tamil Nadu & Puducherry, T G Nagarajan, Chief General Manager (Lubes), Tamil Nadu, IndianOil, S P Selvam, Additional Director and Chief Regional Coordinator, Southern Region, PCRA and MK Biswas, Zonal General Manager, GAIL were present.
