TSWREIS brings respite to harrowed students

Hyderabad: Here is some alarming news that had literally sent the student-community in Adilabad, Medak and Nalgonda into a tizzy. With the annual examinations round the corner, students were almost forlorn given that part-time teachers have been on strike in the four districts.

Now comes some good news, courtesy of Telangana Social Welfare Residential Educational Institutions Society (TSWRIES) in general and it’s Secretary RS Praveen Kumar, in particular. His visionary initiative of four years old is coming as Godsend eleventh hour morale-booster to thousands of students, who worried that their academic crossroads could adversely impact their year’s toil.

Although, there is a collective strength of 3,295 part-time teachers working with the Society, many were apprehensive that they may lose out on their source of livelihood should their services be brought to a grinding halt, once the government completes recruitment of regular teachers in all social welfare residential schools following the ‘employment’ notification that has been issued.

However, in their bid to ensure that no student would miss out on their preparations and studies would continue uninterrupted, TSWREIS has hired services of Super Students, Green Gurus and Teaching Assistants, who all are the exclusive creation of the Society.

They are off-shoots of the ‘Earn While You Learn’ programmes-Super Students’ Lecture Series and Green Gurus-launched by TSWRIES during the 2013-14 academic year. Coming in handy has been the innovative MANA TV where meritorious students endowed with teaching skills conduct live interactive classes for the benefit of the incumbent students.

From among them are the elitist Green Gurus, whose selection has been based as part of a contingency blueprint, and constitute those elevated from the ‘Super Student’ category. These gurus are sent to schools that are confronted with problems like shortage of teaching staff.  The green gurus teach for about 10 days in a month and get Rs 3500 as honorarium for the same. The Green Gurus programme was launched in 2016.

The efforts of TSWRIES are paying handsome results and winning the appreciation of parents and guardians, especially from the four districts, because their wards are not missing their academics due to the ongoing strike by part-time teachers.
