Digvijay Singh’s Visit to AP May Be Delayed Amid Telangana Tensions

AICC general secretary in-charge of state affairs Digvijay Singh who is slated to visit the State on June 29 is understood to be scheduling his visit in such a manner that there would be very little time for party affairs.

According to party sources, Singh will arrive at Visakhapatnam on Saturday, where he will participate in series of private programmes till Sunday evening. He is expected to reach Hyderabad on Sunday night. Sources said that Singh was originally expected to arrive here on Sunday morning, but keeping in view the meeting which T Congress leaders proposed to hold at Nizam College grounds to demand immediate decision on separate Telangana, the AICC general secretary has decided to delay his arrival. He is likely to return to Delhi on Monday afternoon.

Party sources feel that in case the party high command makes some announcement in regard to Telangana, Digvijay may even cancel his visit to Hyderabad. Though this is the second stint as State incharge for Digvijay Singh, the situation now is very dicey as the T protagonists are demanding that the high command should carve a separate state if it were to gain in the 2014 elections. The Seemandhra leaders too are getting ready to launch a movement demanding that the state should remain united.

On the other hand, the TRS which was an ally of Congress party in 2004 is now going aggressive and wants to win about 100 Assembly seats and as many Lok Sabha seats as possible so that it could play a key role at the Centre in the event of the emergence of a third front. It may be recalled that Ghulam Nabi Azad as state incharge did not attend more than one or two meetings in past two years.
