19-year-old who ran 100 meter in 11 seconds invited by Madhya Pradesh government

Bhopal (PTI): The Madhya Pradesh government has invited a 19-year-old youth from Shivpuri district to state capital Bhopal after a video claiming that he finished a 100- metre race in just 11 seconds went viral.

Rameshwar Gurjar, who comes from a farmers' family in Narwar village, is seen running barefoot in the video which is circulating on social media. After watching it, Sports Minister Jitu Patwari was impressed and invited him to Bhopal, said a Public Relations Department official on Tuesday.

If he gets better facilities and training, he can run 100 meters in "9 seconds", the minister was quoted as saying. Rameshwar has studied upto Class 10 and could not go to college because the family's weak financial condition, and the minister assured him all possible help, the official added.

The current men's world record in the 100-metre race is 9.58 seconds, set by Jamaica's Usain Bolt in 2009. The national record is 10.26 seconds, set by Amia Kumar Malik in 2016, as per the Athletics Federation of India website.
