Coronavirus: Tokyo Postpones Olympics 2020 Volunteers Training

Update: 2020-02-22 21:12 IST

Organizers have postponed training for volunteers of the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics with the fear of the spread of the Coronavirus in Japan.

On Friday, the organizing committee said in a statement, "Training was scheduled to be started on Saturday but will be rescheduled."

The training postponement will not affect other arrangements, and organizers are not considering to postpone or cancel the games.

Japan is facing queries about whether it is taking enough precautions to stop the Coronavirus, which emerged last year in central China and has spread to 24 other countries.

Some investors are worried about the widespread could scupper the Olympics, which are scheduled to begin on July 24 in Tokyo.

Over 400 Japanese and foreign passengers are set to leave the virus-stricken Diamond Princess Cruise ship near Tokyo after weeks aboard in quarantine.

More than 600 people on the cruise liner, which has been placed in isolation off Yokohama since arriving on February 3, 2020, carrying 3,700 people, have been infested.

On Thursday, two Japanese people in their 80s passed away, and about 100 passengers are set to be transferred ashore in coming days for further quarantine.

Nearby Japan, more than 80 people have tested positive for the Coronavirus, which killed over 2,000 in mainland China.
