6 records broken by Virat Kohli in the Pune Test

On Friday, the relatively small crowd that had dotted the stands at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, in Pune, was in for a special treat.

Much to the delight of the local supporters, and to the displeasure of the South Africans, Indian skipper Virat Kohli had taken his very best form. Resuming the play on Day 2 at his overnight score of 63*, Kohli assumed command right from the word go. Playing the opposition's bowlers with ease, India's no 4 drove the team's batting effort from the front to take the game away from South Africa.

Notching up his seventh double century in Tests, the 30-year-old smashed a breathtaking knock to bag several bragging rights. Here are 6 records that were broken during ViratKohli'ssparkling knock of 254* in the ongoing second Test in Pune.

#1 First Indian batsman to score seven double hundreds

ViratKohli, on Friday, became the first Indian batsman to register seven double centuries in Test cricket. The Indian skipper went past his former teammates Sachin Tendulkar and VirenderSehwag, who account for six double hundreds each, to achieve the feat.

#2 7000 Test runs

The marathon knock also witnessed ViratKohli surpass the 7000-run mark in Test cricket. At 7054 runs, Kohli now stands as the seventh-highest run-getter in Tests for India. Also, the dashing batsman became the fourth-fastest player ever to reach 7000 Test runs.

#3 40 international hundreds as captain

ViratKohli became the first Indian player to notch up 40 international hundreds as a captain. He now trails Ricky Ponting (41 hundreds) by just one century to jointly own the record.

#4 Fastest to 21000 international runs

'King'Kohli, as he's famously called, broke the record for the fastest player to score 21000 runs in international cricket. He has taken 392 innings to achieve the feat while Brian Lara had accounted for the same tally in 396 innings.

#5 Most number of 150s as Test captain

In the course of his innings, Kohli also went past Don Bradman for the most number of 150+ scores by a Test captain. Kohli has now scored nine 150+ scores while captaining India whereas the Australian legend had scored eight scores of more than 150 while leading his side.

#6 A career-best score

Kohli's record-breaking 254* is now his highest score in Test cricket. The blistering knock, off 336 balls, included 33 boundaries and two sixes. His previous best of 243 came against Sri Lanka in 2017.
