Ajinkya Rahane to play for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020

Update: 2019-11-14 20:54 IST

India's Test Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is all set to don a new jersey in the Indian Premier League. In yet another exchange in the ongoing transfer window among franchises before the IPL 2020 auction, Rahane has been bagged by the Delhi Capitals while spinners Mayank Markande and Rahul Tewatia have been traded to Rajasthan Royals in return.

An IPL veteran of 140 games, Rahane has represented Mumbai Indians, Rajasthan Royals and Rising Pune Supergiant thus far. The Mumbai-based batsman accounts for 3820 IPL runs at a healthy average of 32.93. The 31-year-old also holds credit for 27 fifties and 2 centuries in the marquee tournament.

In IPL 2019, Rahane had scored 393 runs for Rajasthan Royals, including an unbeaten 105. The right-handed batsman was also appointed as the skipper of the franchise initially before the reins were handed over to Australia's Steve Smith in the middle of the tournament.

Rahane marks the second high-profile Indian addition to the Delhi Capitals, who were recently bolstered by the entry of star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin.

Welcoming the run-machine into the side, Delhi Capitals co-owner Parth Jindal took to Twitter on Thursday. The Indian businessman shared his willingness to see Rahane don the DC blue while helping the franchise seize glory this time around. "Welcome to Delhi Capitals, Ajinkya Rahane. Looking forward to seeing you in the blue of DC and helping the team go that one step further. Thank you for agreeing to come to us," Mr. Jindal tweeted.
