Champions don't finish very quickly, India is proud to have MS Dhoni: BCCI President SouravGanguly

Update: 2019-10-24 06:38 IST

The questions surrounding MS Dhoni's career plans seem to be following an endless stream, at least for those in charge of Indian cricket.

Former India cricketer SouravGanguly, who was formally elected as the 39th President of the BCCI on Wednesday, along expected lines, was inevitably asked about MS Dhoni's future at a press conference. Addressing the gathering in Mumbai, Ganguly stated that everyone will be respected during his tenure and the nation is proud to have a player like MS Dhoni.

Drawing a reference from his playing career, Ganguly said, "When I was left out, the world said that I'll never make it. I believed in myself, made a comeback and played for four years. Champions don't finish quickly."

"I don't know what is in his mind or what he thinks about his career; so we will deal with that. He is one of the greats of the game. India is very proud to have MS Dhoni. When you sit down and take a note of what he has done, you'd say wow. Till I'm around, everybody will be respected and that doesn't change," the former Indian skipper further added.

Clearing the air on Bangladesh's tour of India

The newly-elected BCCI President also cleared the air surrounding Bangladesh's upcoming tour of India. Answering a question regarding the tour, Ganguly said, "Two days ago, I spoke with the honourable Prime Minister of Bangladesh. She has agreed to come and visit the Test match when India play Bangladesh on 27 November. When the honourable Prime Minister has given the consent, I don't see the national team not turning up."

Meanwhile, ending all speculations around the tour, the Bangladesh players have called off their strike after reaching an amicable agreement with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
