Deepak Chahar, Shreyas Iyer shine as India seal T20I series 2-1
Deepak Chahar starred with the ball for India as the Men in Blue thrashed Bangladesh by 30 runs in the third T20I in Nagpur to win the three-match series 2-1.
The youngster, who led the pace pack in the absence of other seasoned campaigners, picked up 6 wickets for 7 runs to account for the best figures by a bowler in T20 cricket. Chahar's dream spell also included a hat-trick which saw him clean up the Bangladeshi tail in style.
Swinging into action right in his very first over, Chahar scalped Liton Das and Soumya Sarkar of consecutive deliveries to put India in the driver's seat. However, an admirable third wicket stand of 98 runs between Mohammad Naim and Mohammad Mithun kept the visitors in the hunt.
With India dangerously placed in a position of being knocked out of the game, Chahar returned for his second over to dismiss Mithun in a game-changing moment. The speedster received good support from newcomer Shivam Dube, who pitched in with three crucial wickets to turn the match in India's favour.
Naim's lone battle proved insufficient as Bangladesh soon lost track and bundled out for 144 in the 20th over. Earlier in the evening, India's batting effort was led by a terrific Shreyas Iyer.
Smashing 62 off 33 deliveries, the 24-year-old provided thorough entertainment to the packed house at Jamtha with 3 boundaries and 5 massive sixes. India's innings was supplemented by KL Rahul as well. Losing the openers early, the hosts banked on the experience of the Karnataka batsman to be bailed out of trouble.
Justifying the selectors' faith in him, Rahul scored 52 runs off 35 balls and essayed a critical part in helping India put on a challenging total of 174 runs on the board.
