Mushtaq Mohammad, who is regarded as one of the best captains of Pakistan to date, is very much impressed with the current Indian team and has insisted that Virat Kohli and Co are way ahead of Pakistan.
"They are ahead of Pakistan and some other nations now because they have developed a sound cricket system by not making too many changes to their structure, their domestic and international players are well paid and they have built a strong pool of players," Mushtaq was quoted by PTI.
Under the captaincy of Mushtaq, Pakistan clinched memorable series wins against New Zealand and arch-rivals India t home and also won away series in Australia and the West Indies. The 76-year-old, who represented Pakistan in 67 international matches, played for 19 years.
After he called it quits as a player, he coached the Pakistan cricket team and helped them reach the final of the Cricket World Cup 1999. Unfortunately, they ended up losing to Australia by eight wickets at the Mecca of Cricket, Lord's Cricket Ground.
In his latest interview, Mushtaq backed BCCI's decision to not allow the Indian players in various T20 leagues except the Indian Premier League (IPL) saying that it helped the players concentrate better while performing at the international level.
"That has helped them a lot. They (BCCI) pay and look after their players so well that their players don't mind this restriction and can focus on India," Mushtaq explained.
Mushtaq also praised India's captain and deputy – Kohli and Rohit Sharma for their consistency despite the large number of matches India play when compared to Pakistan in a calendar year.
