Kohli is now used to breaking and making records, be it on or off the field. This time he made a record on Instagram as he became the first Indian to reach 50 million followers. In terms of Indians, Kohli is followed by the stunning Priyanka Chopra with 49.9 million followers ahead of Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone who has 41.4 million followers.

"Hi guys. So, we have reached 50 million on Instagram. It's quite surreal to know that so many people love and support me and they admire what I do. So I'm feeling very grateful, very thankful, and god's been kind. Thank you so much for the love and support over the years. I really really appreciate it," said Kohli in a video he dedicated to his 50 million followers on Instagram.

The Indian skipper currently is in New Zealand gearing up for India's upcoming two-Test series against the hosts. The first Test is set to begin on Friday at Christchurch's Basin Reserve. The second Test is scheduled to begin on Feb. 29 at Hagley Oval.

The two sides earlier played limited-overs series as well. While the Indian thrashed BlackCaps 5-0 in the T20Is, the hosts avenged that loss with a clean-sweep 3-0 victory in the ODIs.

The Test series will also see World No. 1 India kick-start their overseas campaign in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship.

"We need 100 points to be in contention to play at Lord's. Two overseas wins out of six Tests will keep us in good stead. We play six Tests overseas this year [two in New Zealand, followed by four in Australia later in the year], so that's one objective.

The other is to play like the world's No. 1 Test team because that's what this team believes in more than anything else. On the Test front, that's what we're looking at," Indian head coach Ravi Shastri was quoted recently.
