India vs Bangladesh 1st Test: Indian pacers breathe fire as hosts dominate proceedings on Day 1

The Bangladeshis were skittled out for just 150 in their first innings as the Indian pace trio breathed fire on Day 1 of the opening Test at Indore.

Ishant Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami functioned in top gear to rattle the visitors with a daunting display of fast bowling.

Winning the toss and opting to bat first on a surface that had plenty on offer for pace bowlers, Bangladesh were reduced to 3-31 within 20 overs. The innings was then steadied to an extent by a half-century partnership between skipper Mominul Haque and Mushfiqur Rahim for the fourth wicket.

Just as the duo looked set to build the innings further, Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed Haque at a crucial juncture in the game. The off-spinner soon accounted for Mahmudullah too as Bangladesh found half of its side back in the hut in the 46th over.

The high point of the innings though came when a fiery Mohammed Shami got rid of senior pro Mushfiqur Rahim and Mehidy Hasan off consecutive deliveries to leave the visitors reeling at the stroke of tea. The Bangladeshi batsmen were dumbfounded as the speedgun's exemplary skill with the red-cherry drew a rousing applause from the gathering at the Holkar Stadium.

Continuing the wreckage was Ishant Sharma, who sent Liton Das back to the pavilion soon after the tea break. The tail couldn't last long either as Bangladesh were bowled out for a paltry sum in the 59th over.

Coming out to bat, the Indians were struck with an early blow when Bangladesh's Abu Jayed scalped Rohit Sharma early on. India's effort with the bat was then shouldered by Mayank Agarwal (37*) and Cheteshwar Pujara (43*), who have stitched a 72-run partnership for the second wicket so far to position India at 86-1 by the end of the day.
