India vs Australia, 3rd Test: Visitors lodge complaint after Siraj, Bumrah face racial abuse at SCG
The Indian cricket team's management reportedly lodged an official complaint after their fast bowlers' duo – Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami – faced racial abuse from the crowd at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) during the ongoing third Test between India and Australia on Saturday.
It is understood that Bumrah and Siraj faced the abuse through the second and third day of the New Year's Test.
At the end of day's play on Saturday at the SCG, a few senior players led by skipper Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin spoke to the two umpires Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson, informing them about the racial abuse that had been subjected towards two of their players, according to Cricbuzz.
The report also stated that the discussion between the umpires, security officials and the senior players was underway for about five minutes after stumps of Day three. The Indian team met in the dressing room for a bit when the team's security officer had a quick chat with the ground's security officials along with ICC's security official at the venue.
Earlier, the Australians bowled out Team India for 244 in 100.4 overs. The hosts ended Day three at 103 for 2 and extended their lead to 197 runs. Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne will resume their innings on Sunday at 29 and 47 respectively. While Ashwin gave India their first breakthrough with the wicket of David Warner, who departed for a mere 13, Siraj dismissed Australia's other opener Will Pucokvsi, who scored only 10 off 16 balls.
