In a blow to the Indian team, Rohit Sharma reportedly was ruled out of their upcoming One-Day International (ODI) and Test series against New Zealand on Monday due to calf injury.

Rohit suffered the injury during India's innings in the fifth T20I at Bay Oval on Sunday. His knock ended on 60 from 41 balls after he was retired hurt while running for a quick single. India eventually won the match and completed a 5-0 whitewash over the hosts.

"He is out of the tour. Right now, it's not looking good. The physio is assessing him. We will get to know how bad it is but he is not taking any further part in the series," a top BCCI source told PTI.

The three-match ODI series between India and New Zealand is set to start on Wednesday with the first match being played at Hamilton's Seddon Park. The other two games will be played at Auckland's Eden Park and Mount Maunganui's Bay Oval, the same venue where Rohit suffered the unfortunate injury.

In terms of Test cricket, this has come as a setback for Rohit, who was all set to open for India for the first time in Test cricket in an overseas Test, especially after his remarkable return to the longest format of the game in 2019.

As things are currently, Mayank Agarwal is likely to be added to the ODI squad as a reserved opener. The other player who could be picked as Rohit's replacement is Shubman Gill, who recently smashed a double hundred in the ongoing A series Tests against New Zealand A.

The MSK Prasad-led selection committee will soon announce Rohit's replacement but it is understood that it could take some time as convenor of the selection committee, secretary Jay Shah, is en route New Zealand along with treasurer, Arun Dhumal.

"Once the secretary's approval comes, the replacement will be announced," the source revealed.
