Injury scare for India as Virat Kohli hurts his thumb in training

In what comes as a major injury scare for team India ahead of its World Cup opener, skipper Virat Kohli has hurt his thumb in a training session held at the Ageas Bowl in Southampton on Sunday.

While it is yet to be known if Kohli sustained the injury while a fielding drill or a batting session in the nets, he was spotted getting medical assistance from Team India's physiotherapist Patrick Farhart. The Indian skipper had his thumb finger dipped in a glass filled with ice as he walked off the field after the training session ended.

It may be noted that Kedar Jadhav and Vijay Shankar are already among the Indian players who are nursing injuries. While the team management hasn't made anything official, the fans hope Virat Kohli recovers in time, given that he would get few more days before locking horns with the Proteas on Wednesday.

The 30-year-old, who has been reigning supreme with his unmatched gameplay in ODI cricket over the past few years, is expected to hold the key for India's chances in the marquee tournament. The batting maestro, along with Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, is part of a daunting top order that can tear into an bowling attack.
