Mitchell Marsh breaks hand after punching wall, likely to miss start of Test Summer
Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh's Test career is likely to pass through yet another brief interval as an untimely injury might well rule him out of action from the start of Australia's Test summer.
Marsh sustained his latest injury when he punched the dressing room wall after being dismissed in a Sheffield Shield game. The Western Australia captain was dismissed on 53 on the final day of his team's game against Tasmania.
Not pleased at getting out, the 27-year-old chose to show his frustration by punching a wall after returning to the dressing room. The cricketer's expression of a disappointment though proved to be a costly one and ended up breaking his right hand; an injury that could well put his place in the national side in a spot of bother in the coming few weeks.
Speaking to reporters after the incident, Marsh said, "It won't be happening again. It's a good lesson for me, hopefully, it's a good lesson for other people as well." He further added that it was uncharacteristic of him to punch a wall.
Marsh informed that national coach Justin Langer was unhappy with his behavior. "He just told me I'm an idiot, basically. He was disappointed for me," Marsh said.
The all-rounder made a decent comeback into the Australian Test side in the recently concluded Ashes. He now faces a race to regain fitness before Australia take on Pakistan in a two-match Test series starting in Brisbane on 21 November.
