Rohit Sharma leads the way as India thump Bangladesh in 2nd T20I

Update: 2019-11-07 22:41 IST

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma was in sublime touch as he led the team's thumping victory against Bangladesh in the 2nd T20I at Rajkot on Thursday.

Sharma, in the company of his trusted ally Shikhar Dhawan, snatched the game away from the visitors' grasp right from the word go. Making his 100th T20I appearance memorable, the 32-year-old took the Bangladeshi bowlers to the cleaners as he thoroughly entertained the packed-house at Rajkot.

With India needing 29 runs in their pursuit, Sharma returned to the pavilion after scoring a majestic 85 off 43 deliveries. The innings included 6 fours and 6 maximums and had come off at an incredible strike rate of 197.67

The formalities were then taken care by KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who guided India to an emphatic 8-wicket victory over their neighbours to square the series one all. The Indian skipper has rightly adjudged the Player of the Match for his blistering knock.

Earlier in the evening, Bangladesh were restricted to a below-par 153 in their 20 overs after being invited to bat first by Rohit Sharma. Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal led the charge with the ball and picked up two crucial wickets in the middle overs to break the back of Bangladesh's innings. He was ably supported by Deepak Chahar and Washington Sundar, who scalped a wicket each for economical giveaways.

The Bangladeshi batsmen, on the other hand, failed to kick on after getting off to impressive starts. The likes of Liton Das, Mohammad Naim, Soumya Sarkar, and Mahmudullah fell at crucial stages of the innings to dent their team's chances of putting on a challenging score.

The two teams will next lock horns in the series decider at Nagpur on Sunday.
