Shikhar Dhawan's injury : Who will replace the opener?
New Delhi: Shikhar Dhawan, who was part of the playing XI during India's match against Australia, was hit by a bouncer in the first innings. He continued to play with the injury and scored 117 off 109 balls in a winning cause.
He did not field during the second innings. He was seen in the dressing room with an ice-pack on his left thumb. Scans revealed a fracture on Monday. Shikhar hasn't traveled to Nottingham where Team India is set to play against New Zealand on Thursday. His injury is currently being assessed.
According to reports Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer could be the front-runners as replacement players for Dhawan. KL Rahul is likely to open the innings with Rohit Sharma.
A BCCI source said Dhawan has sustained a fracture and might take a month to fully recover. The World Cup is scheduled to end on July 14.
