The Supreme Court said that the magnitude of punishment needs to be reviewed, and thereby revoked the life ban placed on the cricketer. The Court said BCCI has followed its procedure laid down in its anti-corruption code.
The bench of judges set aside the punishment part of the BCCI decision and ordered the Committee to rehear Sreesanth's case.
Sreesanth was slapped with a life ban by the BCCI in wake of his involvement in spot-fixing during the 2013 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL). All the 36 accused in the scandal had been discharged from the case by the Patiala House Court in July 2015.
