DPS Nacharam shine as MK's Cricket Tournament concludes on a high note

Hyderabad: A whopping 36 schools from the South Zone- Telangana, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh participated the VII MK's South Zone Inter School Cricket Tournament which concluded on Saturday at the sprawling campus of Delhi Public School, Nacharam.

The tournament conducted by DPS Nacharam held matches in Under-12, Under-14 and Under-16 categories.

The finals in all three categories were conducted on Saturday. DPS Nacharam and St. Josephs Habsiguda were the joint winners in the U-12 category.

DPS Nacharam was declared the winner in the U-16 category and St. Andrews school was declared the runner up in U-16 category.

In the U-14 category DPS Nacharam lost to St. Andrews School in the final.

The tourney was inaugurated on July 6 and a total of 72 teams participated in the matches. The winners and runners-up were given trophies and prizes worth Rs.20,000 and 15,000 respectively, a press release said.

The valediction function and prize distribution was held on Saturday and Gandikota Sarva Lakshmi, Indian cricket match referee and a former domestic cricket player and coach was the chief guest for the function.

Lakshmi is the first woman to be appointed to the International Cricket Council's International Panel of Match Referees on May 14 this year.

On the inaugural day, the Principal Sunitha Rao welcomed the guest and all the teams to this much awaited event of the twin cities and urged the students to excel in sports along with academics to attain a holistic personality.

The guests were welcomed by the ceremonial Guard of Honour by the school NCC cadets accompanied by Chairman Komaraiah, Director Pallavi and the Principal.

The guests assured the participants the support and guidance of the Telangana Government towards promoting sports and encouraged the children to take up sports as one of their career options.

A visionary in the field of education, Green Energy producer Malka Komaraiah who also nurtures a passion for sports is the chairman of the school.

In his address, he told the participants to imbibe the culture and the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The first match of MK's 2015-16 was kicked off on DPS, Nacharam grounds with the chief guest tossing the coin for St .Peters', Kompally versus DPS Khajaguda in the U-15 category
