Open cash prize carrom championship from Dec 19

Vijayawada: Sky Sports Summit, an NGO, is organising all India open cash prize carom championship and table tennis tournament at Visakhapatnam from December 19 to 21, said Sajida, president of Sky Sports Summit.

Talking newsmen here on Thursday, she said that the carom board game which was originated in India has been relegated to back stage due to the dubious role of some people.

"It is high time the game was brought to limelight and give it due respect," she said. Sajida said that the similar championship and tournament was conducted last year in Telangana and this time it would be conducted in Andhra Pradesh.

The carom championship is open for all the people throughout the country and table tennis tournament is limited to the participants in Andhra Pradesh, she announced stating that there would cash awards of Rs 4 lakh to the winners in the carom board game and Rs 5 lakh to the winners in the table tennis tournament.

Referring to the events, Sajida said that carom championship is for men and women singles and the table tennis is open for all age groups.

She said that there has been tremendous response from the players and more than 300 people registered online to participate in the carom championship.

She recalled that her mother was a carom player and she continued the legacy.

Her daughter Husna Sameera set the world record by playing the carom board game for 20 hours, 20 minutes and 20 seconds at Hyderabad thus not only continuing the legacy but also setting new record.
