Wrestler Sakshi Malik demands a re-trail to preserve her dream of qualifying for Olympics in Tokyo
Sakshi Malik has requested a re-trial in order to preserve her dream of qualifying for Olympics in Tokyo. Malik is currently preparing for the Asian Wrestling Championship, in which she will compete in the non-Olympic division. In the Olympic competition of 62 Kg. It was Sonam Malik who defeated her.
India's Wrestling Federation (WFI) has claimed that if players have won trials but are not doing well in international tournaments, then the trial can be reorganized. Sonam lost in the first round of the ranking series in Rome, but if she bags a medal in the Asian Championship which kicks off in Delhi on February 18, then WFI wouldn't bar her from participating in the Asian Olympic qualifier, to be held in March.
Malik told a blog, "I hope for a round of trials. When I qualify in the trial, I'll have two chances of getting an Olympic ticket. Asian World Olympic Qualifiers (AWC) and World Olympic Qualifiers. I want to qualify through these two tournaments. My training for the AWC is strong. Whatever the competition, I'll do my best to win a medal. I am working on improving my technique. I want to make sure that the mistake of previous tournaments is not made again."
