Sahajasri becomes first Women International Master from Telangana

Hyderabad: Cholleti from Telangana State received her final Women International Master Norm and first Women Grand Master Norm at the Czech Republic Open-2019, Pardubice, to become the first Women International Master from Telangana.

The 23-year-old from Kareemnagar, Telangana has been World Under-10 Girls Chess Champion 2006, Under-10 Girls Asian and Commonwealth Chess Champion 2006 and National Ameture Chess Champion in 2018, a press release said on Monday

Sahajasri began her chess career with Coach A. Kumar of Kareemnagar at the age of seven. After relocating to Hyderabad she worked with Coach L V Shivakumar, Ramaraju and Victor an Israeli Chess Coach. She prepared on her own prior to her departure from Hyderabad for the Europe trip on June 10.

The Telangana girl began her campaign by participating in the Teplice Open Chess Tournament in Czech Republic from June 15 to 23. Soon after that she took part in the Lithuania Chess Championship held form June 24 to 30.

Sahajasri wrapped up her very memorable and successful Europe trip of her career by competing in the Najdurf Memorial Chess Championship-2019 at Warsaw,Poland from July 6 to 14.

The day is not too far when Telangana State will get a 1st Women Grand Master in chess.
