World No. 5 Daniil Medvedev has insisted that Rafael Nadal has an advantage over the other two legends Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic in the battle of winning the most number of major titles.

According to Medvedev, beating Nadal at the Rolland Garros continues to remain the toughest challenge in the Open Era. The Spaniard has won an astonishing 12 French Open singles trophies, while Djokovic and Federer have managed to win it only once each.

The Russian has faced Nadal thrice – all the matches took place in 2019 – and World No. 1 won all those contests including the US Open final. Speaking about Nadal's authority on the clay court, especially at the Stade Rolland Garros, Medvedev said," I have not played against him on clay. It is not the best surface for me. But of course, when you look at the percentage of Nadal victories on the surface in general and Roland Garros in particular, it can definitely be described as the biggest challenge today."

Nadal, who lost to Dominic Thiem in the semi-final of the Australian Open last month, is only one Grand Slam win away from equalling Federer's record 20 major titles. The reigning champion is favourite to achieve the milestone at the upcoming edition of French Open, which will be played from May 24 and the final is scheduled for June 7.

While the Russian top-ranked tennis star does not want to guess who among Nadal, Djokovic and Federer will end up with the most number of major titles, he has claimed that French Open is certainly Nadal's trump card in the race.

"For the new generation, of which I am a part, it is interesting to see who will win the most [Grand Slams]. Yes, it is true that Rafa has an advantage called Roland Garros. You can keep winning there if your injuries are kind. You never know when they can arrive and any little detail counts," Medvedev, who turned pro in 2014, added.
