16-year-old loses life over quest for Chicken Dinner : PUBG Madness

A 16-year-old healthy boy, Furkan Quereshi belonging to the town of Neemuch, Madhya Pradesh died while he was playing PUBG Mobile. The boy, was a class XII student.

As per the family members, he was addicted to PUBG Mobile game.

The family members had said, the boy had been playing PUBG Mobile for six hours constantly. Sometimes he even used to play the game for 18 hours in a day.

On the day he died, while playing PUBG Mobile he got agitated and started shouting at his teammates over the earphones. The boy was losing a battle in PUBG Mobile. After he had been defeated in the game he started crying.

According to reports from the family members, soon after 'the battle' in PUBG Mobile was over Furkan collapsed on the floor.

The doctors have said that, death occurred due to cardiac arrest which was caused by sudden adrenaline surge.

The cardiologist who examined the boy had said that, "The excitement of the video game might have caused a surge in adrenaline, causing tachycardia (increased heart rate) and cardiac arrest."

The family members have said, the boy was in perfect health and he was a swimmer.

Recently, the World Health Organisation (WHO) updated its list of International Classification of Diseases (ICD) and added "gaming disorder" under the section of "disorders due to addictive behaviour"

For the first time, WHO has been classifying gaming disorder as an addictive behaviour disorder.

Incidentally, PUBG Mobile is banned in its home country China and the company had replaced it with a new game called 'Game for Peace'.

A pop-up health notification is now shown on the PUBG mobile to remind gamers under 18-years of age to stop playing the game or take a rest. However, the feature is not that helpful, as it does not stop people from playing the game even after they have spent hours on it.
