Airtel, Vodafone Idea Decline Further as Jio Added 8.1 Million Subscribers

Reliance Jio following its growth trend added about 80.82 lakh subscribers in the month of April, on Monday TRAI shared the published data. At the end of April Jio's subscriber base was around 31.48 million years, it said.

The state-owned telecom operator BSNL was the only one that gained the maximum new subscribers with more than 2.28 lakh of, which reached a total of around 11.59 million rupees. The total number of wireless subscribers (GSM, CDMA and LTE) improved by 0.04% from 116.18 crores in the month of March to 116.23 crores at the end of April.

TRAI report said, "The wireless subscription in urban areas increased from 650.49 million (65.04 crores) at the end of March 2019 to 652.35 million (65.23 crores) at the end of April 2019. However, in the rural area, it declined from 511.32 million (51.13 crores) to 509.95 million (50.99 crores) during the month. The monthly growth rates of urban and rural wireless subscription were 0.29 per cent and (-) 0.27 per cent respectively."

The other chief service providers like Bharti Airtel and Vodafone Idea (VIL), further lost their subscriber base in April. Bharti Airtel lost 32.89 lakh subscribers, which got reduced to 32.19 million rupees, while the largest company in terms of subscriptions, Vodafone Idea lost 15.82 lakh connections, resulting around 39.32 million subscribers.
