Apple's Older Devices Receives iOS 12.4.4 Update With Security Fixes

Apple has released an all-new version of the iOS 12 for the iPhone and iPad models that are not supported for iOS 13 update. The new iOS 12.4.4 update can be seen as a maintenance update that packs security fixes for older devices like iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod Touch (6th generation). As per media reports, the new iOS 12.4.4 update has been released for 14 devices.

Apple on its dedicated Support page lists, iOS 12.4.4 update, brings FaceTime to fix for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch 6th generation.

Clarifying the vulnerability, the page reads, "Impact: Processing malicious video via FaceTime may lead to arbitrary code execution. Description: An out-of-bounds read was addressed with improved input validation."

Natalie Silvanovich of Google Project Zero pointed out the vulnerability.

With the new update for older devices, we get to know how serious Apple is about the security of its customers worldwide. The iPhone 5s was launched in September 2013 that is almost six years back it was launched.

GottabeMobile lists some of the other improvements or updates that the new iOS 12.4.4 brings. As per a report, the update brings connectivity related improvements like Wi-Fi connectivity is fast and reliable, improvements to Bluetooth, stability fix for GPS and cellular data. Other changes include third-party apps stability.
