It is speculated that Jio GigaFiber, the Reliance Jio Infocomm fiber-to-home (FTTH) offering that is available in the test phase so far, will be commercially launched on August 12. It is believed that the formal launch will take place at the annual general meeting (AGM) of the parent company Reliance Industries. Currently, Jio GigaFiber only offers broadband service to selected consumers. Some reports have suggested that voice calls and IPTV will soon make their way. There are also plans to provide connectivity to smart home solutions through the FTTH offer.

Jio GigaFiber plans and price

According to online reports, Jio plans to bring a triple play plan with a validity of 28 days. The plan would offer unlimited voice and data access of up to 100 GB along with access to the Jio Home TV service and a free subscription to Jio Apps. It has been tested with some Jio employees.

Separately, a combined plan to offer access to broadband, fixed-line and TV through a single FTTH connection under Jio GigaFiber would charge Rs. 600 per month. It is also reported that Jio GigaFiber subscribers have the option of connecting at least 40 devices to their smart home network for up to Rs. 1,000

A recent BankAm-Merrill Lynch analyst report had indicated that Jio could bring three subscription plans for GigaFiber. The first plan will only offer Internet connectivity at 100Mbps, while the second plan will also include access to IPTV. The third and higher plan will consist of Internet access, IPTV service and IoT (Internet of Things) services. The prices of these plans may start at Rs. 500 and go up to Rs. 1,000

The official price to make use of Jio GigaFiber has not yet been disclosed. During the trial phase, customers from eligible cities are offered the Jio GigaFiber preview offer by paying a refundable security deposit of Rs. 2,500 or Rs. 4,500. This charge is a security deposit for the ONT device called GigaHub Home Gateway.

The Jio GigaFiber preview offers Internet access at a speed of up to 100Mbps for free along with free access to several Jio applications.

Release date of Jio GigaFiber

Reliance Jio announced the limited launch of Jio GigaFiber in July last year and began taking records for its broadband service in 1,100 cities across the country in August. However, the commercial launch of the FTTH offer has not yet been carried out.

Last month a media report said Jio GigaFiber's commercial launch details could be announced during Reliance Industries AGM on August 12.
