Chingari Downloaded 1 Lakh Times in One Hour Last Night, Post TikTok Ban

India's Chingari app has seen a sudden rise in downloads and views after the TikTok got banned. The app, which is a TikTok substitute, crossed 25 lakh downloads recently amidst the growing anti-China sentiment in the country. Co-founder Sumit Ghosh shared data to prove Chingari is growing even faster since last night and it currently has 10 lakh views per 30 minutes. He also shared that Chingari saw almost 1 lakh downloads per hour last night.

Ghosh took it to Twitter to share Chingari user views after TikTok was banned in India. To confirm this, he shared StreamView app analytics data that shows Chinagari is getting 10 lakh views per 30 minutes. Last night after the ban, Chingari was also downloaded 1 lakh times in just one hour. Due to the sudden surge, Ghosh shared that the app's servers also crashed last night, but was soon up and running a few hours later.

On Google Play store, the Chingari app gets a 4.7-star rating out of 5. This app similar to TikTok, was developed by two Bengaluru-based programmers, Biswatma Nayak and Siddharth Gautam. The app was first launched in November 2018 on Google Play while it debuted in January 2019 on iOS. The app is free to download and has an interface that looks like TikTok a lot. It is available in multiple Indian languages - Hindi, Bangla, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Punjabi, Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu. Chingari users get points (per view) for their videos, which can be redeemed for money later.

TikTok was banned in India, alongside 58 other Chinese apps, based on prejudice 'to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the state, and public order.' Because of the rising anti-China sentiment in India. Recently another TikTok rival Mitron app hit one crore downloads on Google Play.
