FarmVille for Facebook got shut down after 11 years
If you happened to play online games on the social media platform Facebook, you must know about a game called FarmVille. This was launched in 2009 and debuted on Facebook. It soon became an addictive title as more users and friends started joining the game and growing crops to gain levels and new skills in the game. FarmVille also offered social networks to give away crops and receive some to improve your farm and earn more money in the game.
However, after 11 years of existence, FarmVille creator Zynga has announced that they will be closing the game on December 31, 2020 (yesterday). This announcement was made in September of last year. And now, since we entered 2021, FarmVille is no more.
The sad news stems from Adobe's decision to stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers on December 31, 2020. Since FarmVille required the Flash Player plug-in, it dies along with Flash Player.
"Following an incredible 11 years since its initial launch back in 2009, we are officially announcing the closure of the original FarmVille game on Facebook. As previously stated, Adobe will stop distributing and updating Flash Player for all web browsers, and Facebook will stop supporting Flash games on the platform completely after December 31st, 2020. FarmVille will therefore be directly affected as a result of this," Zynga said in its announcement.
Those who still want to play FarmVille can do that with Farmville 2: Tropic Escape which is available on Android and iOS. Zynga has also released FarmVille 3: Animals on mobile devices.
