Jio Offers Free 30 minutes of Talktime With New Recharges
Last week, Reliance Jio upset its customers by announcing that they need to pay for the outgoing calls until December 31, 2019. The call charges have been implemented to counter the IUC charges Jio has to pay to other operators. There is a big controversy surrounding this move by Jio and all subscribers along with other operators have been quite vocal with their issues regarding this. Jio has something to relax the blow for its customers.
As per a Telecom Talk report, Reliance Jio is currently trying to relax the blow of paid outgoing calls by offering free IUC minutes to its subscribers. All Jio customers who are presently recharging on their Jio numbers will get 30 minutes of free IUC minutes for outgoing calls to other networks. Jio hasn't announced it publicly but customers renewing are notified with SMS. This comes as good news for customers who have been wondering what to do after they have made a new recharge.
Jio is limiting this good news for a limited period. The report mentions that the 30 minutes' worth of free talk time is only limited to those who recharge within a week from the date of the announcement. So every Jio user making a recharge before October 17, i.e. Thursday should get 30 minutes of free talk time. That might be just enough for frequent callers to make it to the end of the month.
Jio said that it has been struggling to pay the IUC charges to other operators as it offers free voice calls to its customers. The operator even dropped the ring time for outgoing calls to 20 seconds in a bid to control over the IUC costs. The telecom industry protested, and Jio had to raise it back to 25 seconds. So far, Jio says it has paid almost Rs 13,000 crores as IUC charges to other operators.
While Jio is charging its subscribers for all calls to other networks, it should be noted that Jio is still offering free calls to other Jio numbers and landline connections.
