Meet "Pixie": Google's Magic Touch for Pixel 9 with Gemini AI Inside

Google is in the process of developing an AI assistant named Pixie, anticipated to be integrated into the Pixel 9 series smartphones and powered by the advanced Gemini model. In the dynamic landscape of technological innovation, major players such as OpenAI, Google, Microsoft, and Meta are striving to leverage the capabilities of artificial intelligence (AI) in their offerings, aiming to maintain a competitive edge in the evolving AI race.

Recently introduced, Gemini stands out as Google's latest and most potent large language model, boasting multimodal capabilities that position it as a significant advancement in the field. Google has indicated that Bard, its existing assistant, will now be powered by the new Large Language Model (LLM), with ongoing plans for further updates.

The emergence of reports now suggests that Google is actively developing Pixie, a virtual assistant designed to deliver a more personalized Google Assistant experience. Fueled by the Gemini model, Pixie is envisioned as a digital companion capable of utilizing data from various Google applications on a user's phone, including Gmail and Maps. Unlike conventional assistants primarily focused on answering queries, Pixie is geared towards handling intricate tasks, such as recommending nearby stores based on a photo taken by the user.

There are indications that Pixie might be seamlessly integrated into the upcoming Pixel 9 smartphones, slated for release in the coming year. It is worth noting that Pixie is distinct from the AI assistant introduced in October, which was powered by Bard. Google had previously disclosed that the Bard-powered assistant would be accessible to selected testers in the months following its launch, emphasizing the opt-in nature of the experience.

Furthermore, industry reports suggest that Google is exploring the development of AI-powered glasses, potentially serving as an AI sidekick for various tasks. These glasses could offer guidance, assistance with tool usage, problem-solving, and even support activities like playing a musical instrument. The AI-powered glasses align with Meta's introduction of a similar product earlier in the year, reflecting the tech industry's ongoing pursuit of integrating AI into diverse aspects of user experiences.
