Microsoft Teams to stop working on Internet Explorer 11

Microsoft Teams, the famous web conferencing service, will stop working in Internet Explorer 11 starting today (November 30). So, if you've been using Microsoft Teams in Internet Explorer until now, to continue using the service, you'll have to switch to Microsoft Edge to use it in the browser.

Microsoft had announced this earlier this year, and this is part of the company's push to move Internet Explorer users to Edge.

Microsoft Teams is not the only thing Internet Explorer 11 is missing now, the "veteran" browser from the house of Microsoft will also lose access to Microsoft 365 services soon. By August 17 of next year, Microsoft 365 services will stop working in Internet Explorer. The legacy version of Microsoft Edge will also end support on March 9 of next year.

All of these changes were announced by Microsoft in a blog post earlier this year where the company had said that Internet Explorer 11 would not go away, but the amount of mileage you can get from the browser will be greatly reduced. Also, with the legacy Microsoft Edge coming to an end of support, it's evident that Microsoft will focus entirely on the Chromium-powered version of Microsoft Edge.

"We're announcing that Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) by this time next year. Beginning November 30 2020, the Microsoft Teams web app will no longer support Internet Explorer 11. Beginning August 17 2021, the remaining Microsoft 365 apps and services will no longer support IE 11," Microsoft said.

"This means that after the above dates, customers will have a degraded experience or will be unable to connect to Microsoft 365 apps and services on IE 11. For degraded experiences, new Microsoft 365 features will not be available or certain features may cease to work when accessing the app or service via IE 11. While we know this change will be difficult for some customers, we believe that customers will get the most out of Microsoft 365 when using the new Microsoft Edge. We are committed to helping make this transition as smooth as possible," the company explained.
