Mobile Number Portability: Check your eligibility and TRAI new rules
Want to port your mobile number? Now you no longer need to wait for a week time to do this. With the new Trai (Telecom Regulatory Authority of India) rules and regulations, the mobile number portability (MNP) system has been made easier than earlier. The new rules will be applicable from today, 16 December.
According to the new rules, the Unique Porting Code (UPC) will be generated by the telecom regulator only when a subscriber is eligible to port his/her mobile number. Trai will decide the eligibility of the customer for a mobile number.
These are the conditions listed by TRAI:
1) The customers using the post-paid service need to clear the 'outstanding dues' of the current telecom operator for the issued bill as per the normal billing cycle.
2) User needs to use the active connection of any mobile operator for a minimum of 3 months/ 90 days.
3) If you have already requested to change the ownership of your mobile number, your number will not be eligible for portability.
4) The court of law should not prohibit the porting of the mobile number.
5) You won't be able to port it if your mobile number is sub-judice.
6) Trai said, "There should not be any pending contractual obligations to be fulfilled by the subscriber as per the exit clause provided in the subscriber agreement."
Unique Porting Code or UPC will be valid for four days for all the places excluding Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East. The UPC will be available for 30 days in Jammu & Kashmir, Assam and North East.
Charges: For each porting request the telecom regulator will charge ₹6.46 as transaction fee.
Trai Rules for Various Users
Individual Users: For individual users, the porting request shall not be rejected until the validity of UPC.
Corporate Users: Corporate mobile number users have to submit a valid authorisation letter issued by the corporate entity for porting a number.
