PUBG Mobile Becomes Highest Earning Game Worldwide in May 2020
Last month PUBG Mobile emerged at the top spot worldwide in terms of revenue. The multiplayer battle royale game gathered over $226 million in May an increase of 41 percent when compared to the last year May month. It was launched in 2018.
As per SensorTower, PUBG Mobile from Tencent grossed its significant revenue, around 53 percent from China, 10.2 percent from the US and 5.5 percent from Saudi Arabia.
Honor of Kings from Tencent made a gross revenue of $204.5 million, a 42 percent year after year growth from May 2019. Out of $204.5 million, 95 percent was earned from China and 2.2 percent from Thailand.
The next was Roblox from Roblox Corporation, then follows Mixi's Monster Strike and Moon Active's Coin Master. The main reason behind the rising revenue for games is the coronavirus lockdown adopted by many countries.
Games such as Pokémon GO from Niantic and Three Kingdoms Strategic from Alibaba also observed an increase in earning in May. Pokémon GO logged $82.2 million gross revenue, growth of 45.5 percent compared to last year May. Since September 2019, in terms of revenue, this was the game's best month.
Whereas, Three Kingdoms Strategic had its best month ever as it recorded $85.4 million. It was launched in September 2019 and is only accessible in China.
Tencent consistently brings new additions to PUBG Mobile to keep its users engaged. Recently it introduced a new mode called 'Mysterious Jungle'. Mysterious Jungle is only playable on the Sanhok map, which was added as part of the 0.18.0 update earlier in May.
