Tata Sky to Present Binge+ Android STB on December 16
It is reported that Tata Sky is launching a Hybrid Android STB under its Binge+ branding. There is the first real confirmation about the same that claims the DTH operator is launching this box by December 16.
The information comes from DreamDTH -- which received it from one of its community members, AirSky. It shared the first exclusive look at Tata Sky Binge+ set-top box along with the specifications we know as of now.
As per the report the set-to-box has been codenamed "Prithvi" which is manufactured by Technicolor. There is no confirmation though; it is expected to ship with the latest Android 9 out of the box and powered by 1.8GHz Broadcom BCM72604 B processor. It will have 2GB of RAM and 8GB of internal storage paired with Broadcom VideoCore V HW GPU.
The report claims the STB is hybrid and offers live TV viewing via RF cable connected to the satellite dish and also offers streaming of OTT content via Ethernet or WiFi connection. It also supports 4K resolution and is HEVC compatible. It helps seven days catch up TV, Tata Sky VoD and OTT apps like Amazon prime video and Netflix.
There are suggestions that the Binge+ STB will bring with it a complimentary one-month subscription to Tata Sky Binge service which offers streaming of content from Zee5, Hotstar, Eros Now, Hungama and SunNxt OTT apps. After the first month, this service will be chargeable at Rs.249/month.
When it comes to pricing of Hybrid STB, there is no information yet, but it is suggested that Tata Sky will offer a discount for existing subscribers.
