This Pixel camera phone can capture your kissing selfie

With Artificial Intelligence (AI) deciding the dexterity of a smartphone camera, Google seems to have taken it a step further by adding an interesting capability to its camera application, especially for Pixel smartphones. The new Photobooth mode in the Pixel 3 camera application aims to help users click on selfies better than couples or groups. "Once you enter Photobooth mode and click the shutter button, it will automatically take a photo when the camera is steady and you will see that the subjects have good expressions with their eyes open," Google explained in a blog post.

But that is not all. Google has added a kiss detection feature in Photobooth mode. "Kiss a loved one, and the camera will capture it automatically," Google boasts.

It was reported that Google has worked with photographers "to identify five key expressions" to help the camera application understand when a couple is actually kissing. These expressions include smiles, tongue out, kissy/duck face, puffy cheeks and surprise. Google's algorithms, in fact, evaluate the kiss as seen in the frame to decide when the camera application should decide to click on the photo. "Then we trained a neural network to classify these expressions. The kiss detection model used by Photobooth is a variation of the Image Content Model (ICM) trained for Google Clips, specifically adjusted to focus on kissing, "explained Google.

In other words, if you are using the Photobooth mode on the Pixel 3 camera, your phone will click on the best possible selfie while kissing your loved one. "The final image quality score used to activate the shutter is calculated by a weighted combination of the facial expression score based on the attention and the kiss score," Google said.

If you're interested in trying this kiss detection feature, get the APK file from Google Camera 6.2 and go directly to Photobooth mode and try that perfect kissing selfie.
