Update: 2019-04-23 13:08 IST

With an average download speed of 22.2 Mbps, Reliance Jio topped the 4G download speeds table of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) for March. For Jio, it is an improvement of more than 20.9Mbps achieved in February. This Mumbai-based telecom operator has constantly been leading the 4G download speeds in India and Jio's average 4G download speed in March was more than double that of Bharti Airtel, which is currently placed second. However, the telecom company has problems with the loading speed and currently ranks third among the main telecommunications operators. Reliance Jio was also the fastest 4G operator in the country in 2018 with the highest average download speed throughout the year.

Bharti Airtel's performance declined slightly in March to 9.3Mbps from 9.4Mbps in February, according to data released by the telecoms regulator. Although Vodafone and Idea Cellular merged and operate as Vodafone Idea, TRAI published its network performance separately.

The average download speed of 4G in the Vodafone network marginally improved to 7Mbps in March from 6.8Mbps in February. Idea recorded a marginal decrease in the average download speed from 5.7Mbps in February to 5.6Mbps in March.

Vodafone exceeded the average upload speed of 4G in March with 6 Mbps, which is equal to February. The Idea and Airtel network registered a slight decrease in average load speed from 4G to 5.5Mbps and 3.6Mbps, respectively, in March, while Jio recorded an improvement with an average load speed of 4.6Mbps.

The average speed is calculated based on the data collected by TRAI with the help of its MySpeed application in real time.
