iOS 18 Unveils Enhanced Home Screen Icon Customization
In the upcoming iOS 18 update, iPhone users will enjoy expanded control over the arrangement of Home Screen app icons, as per sources familiar with Apple's plans.
Although the app icons will likely adhere to an underlying grid system for consistency, users will be able to arrange icons more flexibly within iOS 18. This anticipated update will introduce features like creating blank spaces and arranging icons in rows and columns, offering users greater customization.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg initially reported on the forthcoming iOS 18, noting that iPhone users will experience a "more customizable" Home Screen. While third-party apps like Shortcuts and Widgetsmith already provide some customization options, Apple's integrated features will give users more official and convenient methods for personalizing their Home Screens.
Since iOS 16, iPhone users have been able to customize the Lock Screen, and iOS 18 is anticipated to extend similar customization capabilities to the Home Screen. The forthcoming update is poised to introduce a range of new customization options for the Home Screen, possibly marking the most significant overhaul in several years.
Apple is slated to unveil iOS 18 at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June. In addition to the enhanced Home Screen customization, rumours suggest additional features, such as generative AI enhancements for Siri and various apps, RCS support in the Messages app for enriched cross-platform messaging, design refinements, and more.
