Microsoft to stop software updates for Windows 10
In a blog post, Microsoft announced that it would not release major software updates for Windows 10 as it has reached the end of its services. The tech giant also claimed that Windows 10 22H2 would be the final version of the operating system. Furthermore, the company also confirmed that all Windows 10 will remain to receive monthly security updates for a few more years, but this will end on October 14, 2025.
“As documented on the Windows 10 Enterprise and Education and Windows 10 Home and Pro lifecycle pages, Windows 10 will reach the end of support on October 14, 2025. The current version, 22H2, will be the final version of Windows 10, and all editions will remain in support with monthly security update releases through that date,” the company said in a blog post.
After this, Microsoft encourages users to transition to Windows 11 now, as there will be no additional Windows 10 feature updates. It should be noted that Windows 11 has been on the market for more than a year and a half.
Windows 11 upgrade is free for original Windows 10 users. But if you are using, for example, Windows 7 or earlier, you may need to buy Windows 11. However, there are many solutions on the internet about how to get Windows 10 for free, which means Windows 11 will also be free when you get Windows 10. Those who buy new PCs from brands like Asus, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Acer, and Samsung will get Windows 11 preloaded.
The most important requirement for compatibility with Windows 11 is TPM 2.0, which is a security standard that Microsoft must enable on your CPU. Some older CPUs support this, but it's usually disabled by default. Brands like Asus and Acer recently started rolling out BIOS updates to enable TPM 2.0 on eligible CPUs, so your PC might be compatible with Windows 11 if the CPU isn't too old.
People who have a PC running Windows 10 version can go to the settings section to check on if their device has received the latest version. Please note that if your PC or laptop is incompatible with Windows 11, your device will not receive the update. Therefore, you have to buy a new computer to use the Windows latest version. Users need not panic because they still have two more years to use the old version of Windows and buy a new computer.
