Starz Launches OTT App "Lionsgate Play" in India
Starz officially launched its OTT application "Lionsgate Play" in India. It is the latest streaming service to get launched in India as it competes with the Indian and international players.
Lionsgate Play is priced at ₹ 99 per month and ₹ 699 per year. The OTT app is available on Android as well as iOS, and also on Amazon's Fire TV. The official announcement comes a week after the app was quietly launched in India. Lionsgate Play made its debut in India last year in association with Vodafone, Airtel and Reliance Jio.
Lionsgate Play offers a catalogue of original movies and TV shows in different genres, such as romance, suspense, comedy and action. New content available at launch includes the romantic comedy Love Life with Anna Kendrick, No Man's Land, which is a Syrian Civil War series, and a comedy series called The Goes Wrong Show. The app also offers content in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Kannada, and Bhojpuri.
Lionsgate Play will also feature popular titles like Hustlers, Angel Has Fallen, Hellboy, and The Gentleman. The company also plans to bring local content soon. He has partnered with Bollywood actors Kriti Sanon, Tiger Shroff, and Sanjana Sanghi for original content on Lionsgate Play.
"We will also be launching Indian originals in the coming months, featuring untold edgy urban stories from some of the best creative minds in the Indian film industry," said Mr Rohit Jain, Managing Director, Lionsgate South Asia.
Lionsgate Play is the latest addition to the growing market for streaming services in India. There are Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Disney + Hotstar among international players, and Voot, Zee5, and Viu already offer a variety of local content.
