WhatsApp announces screen sharing mode in video calls

WhatsApp, the widely used calling and messaging app with billions of users, has announced the addition of a new feature. Now allows users to share their phone screen during video calls. Screen Sharing will enable a host to share the content displayed on their screen with others, making it a helpful tool for office meetings and more.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has announced the new update via his Facebook account, saying, "We're adding the ability to share your screen during a video call on WhatsApp." WhatsApp's latest move could give popular video calling apps like Google Meet and Zoom some stiff competition as this is one of the important features for group meetings.

With screen-sharing capabilities, WhatsApp makes it easy for users to collaborate on documents, present presentations, and more. In addition, now you can also offer technical support to family and friends with ease. For example, if your parents need to update something in their phone settings, you can help them by using the WhatsApp video call screen-sharing feature. Users will have complete control over the screen-sharing feature, which is typical with any other video conferencing app. It means users can stop screen sharing whenever they want.

Users can click the 'Share' icon during a video call to use this feature and choose between sharing a specific app or the entire screen. WhatsApp supports video calls with up to 32 participants so small meetings can be easily held on this messaging app.

Screen sharing was previously available to beta testers and is now being rolled out to all users. The update is rolling out gradually, so it will likely take a few days to reach everyone. It is worth mentioning that WhatsApp recently added great features like Chat Lock, Edit button, HD photo quality update, and more.

WhatsApp chat lock feature is self-explanatory. People can add a lock to their super personal chats, so no one can access them, even if you hand your phone over to someone else. The good thing is that the new feature also automatically hides the content of that chat in notifications, and therefore, your privacy is protected.

The app's Edit button feature gives users a 15-minute window to change incorrect messages they might have sent to someone. This is a handy feature as one will now not be required to delete entire messages, as the edit button will allow you to correct sentences or words that you think were not initially correct.
