WhatsApp Confirms Dark Mode and Disappearing Messages Features
In October it was reported by WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is working on disappearing messages that will automatically get deleted from the chat. These messages will be useful when users who want to share some information but don't want it to stay on record forever. This feature is not new, Gmail, Telegram and Signal also have a similar feature. The latest update on WhatsApp shows more development on disappearing messages and dark mode as well.
WhatsApp beta version 2.19.348 for Android shows the feature disappearing messages has now been renamed to 'Delete Messages'. This feature isn't available for public beta users as yet and currently being worked on it. The feature WhatsApp's Delete Messages is available for one-to-one and group chats.
This feature will have a toggle on/off button in the contact info for chats on WhatsApp. Only admins will be able to turn this feature on or off in group chats. When it comes to the time intervals, users have five options to choose from – one hour, one day, one week, one month and one year. Depending on the time interval selected the messages sent to that chat will get disappear. Let's assume if it's 1 hour every message sent in that particular chat will disappear after that time.
This feature doesn't leave a trace on deleted messages unlike 'Delete for Everyone'. Currently when users delete messages on WhatsApp a message – "This message has been deleted" is displayed. But with disappearing messages, this kind of message won't get displayed, and it will be like the message never existed. In fact, WhatsApp is quite late to bring this feature onboard.
This WhatsApp update showed that this feature had been developed for dark mode also. We can expect WhatsApp dark mode roll out anytime soon with the feature almost ready.
