WhatsApp is working on mention badge for group chats: Report

WhatsApp is working on many new features. The newest feature seen in the latest beta update is a dedicated badge that can be used to mention people during group chats and more. According to the report, WhatsApp will add a new mention badge along with the PIN message option. The latest feature has been spotted in the beta update.

According to Wabetainfo, WhatsApp has released beta update 2.21.3.13 today. For group chats, a new mention badge has been added. The report reads, "After several updates that addressed bug fixes and general improvements, WhatsApp has released today the 2.21.3.13 beta update. Apparently, it has nothing new, but we can show today a preview of the feature they're working on in this build: the mention badge! The feature is very simple to explain: when you receive a mention in a group, a new badge will be added in the group cell."

The feature will come in handy during group chats. If implemented, the mention badge can be used to tag people in a group. WhatsApp's feature tracker reports that the feature is in development and will be rolled out in a future update. As of now, only some of the beta testers can access the feature.

Apart from this, WhatsApp has also released a new sticker pack called Taters n tots for Android users.

On a related note, WhatsApp in recent months has released many new features. The latest feature that WhatsApp has recently released is fingerprint and face unlocking when pairing the device. To link WhatsApp Web or Desktop to WhatsApp account, users will now be prompted to use fingerprint or face unlock on their phones, before scanning a QR code from the phone to link their device. WhatsApp has said that this will prohibit illegal logins to your WhatsApp account on the web. For example, once the new feature is implemented, your friend or colleague will not be able to link devices to your WhatsApp account without you. Whenever someone tries to log in without permission to the messaging application's web version, a warning will appear on their phone. They can unlink the devices from their phone any time without being physically present at their desk.
