1-day strike by SCCL workers against privatisation of coal sector successful in Kothagudem

SCCL contract staff led by leaders of various workers unions staging a protest near company’s head office in Kothagudem on Tuesday

Kothagudem: Opposing the privatisation of coal sector and demanding regularisation of services of contract workers besides enhancing their salaries, the CITU, AITUC, INTUC and IFTU has conducted a one-day all India strike in Kothagudem on Tuesday. As part of the stir, the leaders of the Union staged a protest at Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) corporate office on the day for nearly three hours where over 90 per cent of workers attended the strike.

The workers raised slogans against Central government's decision and sought the government to solve issues that have been pending for the last many years, including issues that of contract staff.

Former MLA K Sambha Siva Rao, CPM district secretary A Kanakaiah and leaders of Singareni Collieries Company Recognised Union, Telangana Boggu Ghani Karmika Sangham, supported the strike. Meanwhile, the protests were also held on the premises of offices of General Managers in Yellandu, Kothagudem area, Sathupalli and Manuguru.

Leaders of participating unions M Narasimha Rao, Vanga Venkat, Y Krishnaiah, Srinivas, Y Venkateswara Rao, G Raja Rao, K Sridhar, L Bala Raju, Chandra Sekhar, Nirmala, Arun, L Viswanadham, R Ashok, Murthy, K Nagabhushanam and others took part in the strike.
