100 drunk drivers held during mass crackdown by Wanaparthy police
Wanaparthy: The Wanaparthy police conducted a large scale drunk and drive check across the district on Tuesday and seized as many as 100 bikes and booked cases against all the vehicle owners.
The main reason for the Wanaparthy police to take such a large scale drunk and drive operation is that of late there has been growing number of accidents due to drunk driving on the district roads. Against this backdrop, the police launched a district-wide crackdown on drunk drivers and arrested as many as 100 bikers and booked cases against them.
Speaking on the occasion Apoorva Rao, Superintendent of Police, Wanaparthy district said that they were taking the cases very seriously and would not spare anyone who violates the rule as more than 70 per cent accidents on the roads were caused due to drunk driving.
"We have found that maximum accidents occur only due to drunk driving. Due to the malady, many innocent people are losing their lives. Particularly, the pedestrians and other innocent vehicle drivers are also becoming victims. We will not spare anyone and will book cases against them however big they may be," said the SP.
During the one-day mass drunk drive programme, the police formed into teams and intercepted vehicles at all the major crossroads, bus stands and other public places in the district.
The SP said that the arrested persons would be produced in the court and later, they would be given counselling in the presence of their family members.
Wanaparthy Deputy Superintendent of Police Srujana supervised the one-day drunk and drive programme and said that more such programmes would be conducted in the future and the police would continuously monitor to put a check on drunk driving in the district.
