1.23 lakh families benefited with watershed projects: NABARD chairman GT Chintala

Sircilla: NABARD Chairman Dr GT Chintala along with CGM YK Rao inspected Watershed Development Project being implemented by Karimnagar District Cooperative Central Bank Limited and supported by NABARD, at Gambhiraopet mandal in the district on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Chintala congratulated KDCCB and villagers, including the farmers of three watershed projects of Gambhiraopet, Dammannapet and Mustafanagar as this is the first project taken up by the Cooperative Bank in the country. He explained that so far NABARD has implemented 268 watershed projects covering an area of 2,89,279 hectares with an investment of Rs 295 crore, which benefited 1,23,666 families in 27 districts in the state.

At present, NABARD is supporting 13 watershed projects, two Integrated Water Management Scheme and 35 Climate Proofing project with a grant support of Rs 28 crore.

NABARD CGM YK Rao said that NABARD is implementing Sustainable Development Plan (SDP) projects, KFW spoil projects, Climate Proofing Project and Promoting Farmers Producer Organizations in completed watershed projects as post watershed measures for enabling the sustainability of the farmers.

TSCAB chairman K Ravinder Rao, GM Jyothi Swaroop Upadhyaya, DGM G Santhanam, AGM Tapan Kumar Sahoo, RO Ananth Patnana, CEO KDCCB Satyanarayana, representatives of village watershed committees of Dammannapet, Gajasingavaram and Mustafanagar water projects were present along with others.
