1.8 kg gold bars worth 58 lakh seized at RGIA

Hyderabad: Customs Airport Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials on Saturday night caught a Sudan national at the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport for smuggling gold. According to the officials, the lady passenger landed at RGIA, Shamshabad from Dubai in EK 524 flight. The AIU officials intercepted her while she was existing through the green channel.

The said gold bars were found to have been wrapped with a layer of aluminium foil covered with black adhesive tape and concealed in three polythene covers in the hand baggage of the said passenger, who has been a frequent flyer between Dubai and Hyderabad in the past three months. They seized gold bars weighing about 1.8 kg worth Rs 58.21 lakh. She was arrested and the officials are questioning her about the source of gold that was smuggled from Dubai.
